Permit & Fees

A tourist permit is an official authorization required to enter, trek, or engage in specific activities in certain areas of Nepal. These permits help regulate tourism, ensure safety, and support conservation efforts in protected or restricted areas.

Why Are Permits Required?

  1. Conservation: To protect natural and cultural resources in protected areas and manage tourism impact.
  2. Safety: To track trekkers and climbers for their safety and facilitate rescue operations if needed.
  3. Regulation: To manage tourist flow in restricted areas and ensure compliance with local laws and regulations.

How to Obtain Permits

  1. Visas: Available at the airport upon arrival or through Nepalese embassies abroad.
  2. Trekking Permits: Can be obtained through trekking agencies or directly from the tourism office in Nepal.
  3. Restricted Area Permits: Often require pre-arrangement with local agencies or authorities.
  4. Mountaineering Permits: Typically arranged through adventure companies or authorized agencies.

A trekking permit is a must to travel to controlled areas mentioned below. Permit, however, are issued only to groups. Individual trekkers will not be issued a trekking permit.

Note: To get trekking permit, an application form with other relevant documents should be submitted through any registered trekking agency of Nepal. The trekking permit fee must be paid in US dollars. Not with standing anything written in above.

To visit restricted areas in Nepal. A trekking permit must be obtained from the Department of Immigration, Kalikasthan, Kathmandu.
