After breakfast, we set out on our climb, making our way through a small and steep valley until we catch a glimpse of the Paungda Danda rock race. This striking 1,500-meter-tall granite wall rises sharply from the riverbed. From here, the views of Pisang Peak in the northeast and Annapurna II in the south are breathtaking. After that, we gradually descend to the Manang Valley bottom, where we can take in the breathtaking scenery that surrounds us.

Pisang to Manang 3570m/11713ft.

We are given two options for getting to Manang after Pisang, and we choose the upper route that passes through Ghyaru. There is little doubt that this approach offers breath-taking vistas of Pisang Peak, Mt. Annapurna, and other nearby summits. Manang is closer to us, and the weather gets colder and drier. On the other hand, a quick trip to the Barge Monastery—the biggest monastery in the Manang District—will cheer us up.

Acclimatization at Manang

As today is our acclimatization day, we take a quick hike to Lake Gangapurna or Bhojo Gumba to keep our bodies in shape for the trails ahead. Instead, we could trek to Vraga Village and pay a visit to the Himalayan Rescue Association, which can provide us with important details regarding Acute Mountain Sickness (AMS).

Visit Ice Lake if you’re an enthusiastic hiker who wants to go on hikes to nearby locations. At an elevation of 4600 meters, Ice Lake is approximately a 4-hour journey away. Magnificent views of the mountains, alpine valleys, and scattered communities may be seen from Ice Lake.

Manang to Yak Kharka 4110m/13485ft.

Starting at Manang village, the trail climbs past a stream and reaches Tenki village, situated above Manang. From there, the trail continues northwest, rising out of Marshyangdi Valley and up Jarsang Khola Valley. Following this valley north, the path gains elevation as it passes through a scrub of juniper trees and a few pastures. The trail passes the little town of Ghunsa, which is easily identified by its group of flat mud roofs, just below the trailhead. At this point, the trail crosses meadows where horses and yaks graze. .. The walk winds past a pretty meadow with an old Mani wall and then crosses a tiny river on a wooden bridge to the small town of Yak Kharka. It is advised to rise gently rather than too quickly to avoid altitude issues.
