Trip Overview

Everest Base Camp Short Trek

A 14-day excursion known as the Everest Base Camp Short Trek brings visitors to the area where the well-known Sherpas reside and follow Buddhism. Namche Bazaar, Sagarmatha National Park, the Kala Patthar viewpoint, and Everest Base Camp are among the places visited on the walk. Hikers will pass by four of the world’s six highest peaks and see Tengboche Monastery, the tallest monastery in the Khumbu region. The journey starts with a flight from Kathmandu to Lukla, which includes all required permits and equipment for the trip. If you are on a tight schedule and would want the same amenities as the 16-day trek, this trek is an excellent choice. The 12-day Everest View Trek is easier for novice hikers in excellent health and average physical condition, while the 18-day Everest Base Camp Trek via Gokyo Lakes is a more challenging option for experienced hikers seeking a greater challenge.

Highlights of the Everest Base Camp Short Trek

  • Take off on an exciting journey to Lukla from Kathmandu with breathtaking vistas.
  • At 3,870 meters / 12,697 feet, explore the historic Tengboche Monastery.
  • Stroll to the base of Everest, the tallest mountain in the world at 5364 meters (17599 feet).
  • Enjoy the expansive vistas of Kala Patthar that encompass Everest and the Himalayas.

Acclimatization at Dingboche

We’re saving today for acclimatization. You are going to hike up Nagarjun Hill, which is located close to Dingboche, today. The panoramic views of the Imja valley that can be seen from the summit make the walk uphill worthwhile, despite its difficult nature. 08

Dingboche to Lobuche 4910m/16105ft.

It’s crucial to remember that the ascent from Duglha to Chupki Lhara can be difficult and steep; therefore, it’s crucial to go cautiously to prevent altitude sickness. The emotional reminder of the dangers and sacrifices associated with ascending the highest peak in the world is provided by the memorials dedicated to Scott Fischer and Babu Chiri Sherpa. We’ll be treated to some very stunning views of the surrounding peaks as we continue along the Khumbu Glacier moraine, including Pumori, which is frequently referred to as “Everest’s daughter” due to its near proximity to the highest mountain in the world. Finally, we’ll arrive at Lobuche, a small village that serves as a popular base camp for climbers heading to Everest and other nearby peaks. Despite its remote location, Lobuche offers a range of amenities for trekkers, including guesthouses, restaurants, and shops selling trekking gear and souvenirs.

09

Lobuche to Gorakshep, visit Everest Base Camp 5364m/17594ft.

We will hike across the once-large Gorak Shep Lake to reach Everest Base Camp. We shall pass monuments honoring the mountaineers of the Indian army along the route. It is imperative that we follow our lead Sherpa because the path can be difficult to navigate. The walk will be difficult due to the high altitude; before arriving at Everest Base Camp, we will cross streams, moraines, and rocky dunes. From there, the vibrant tents of the mountaineers will stand out against the drab surroundings. Beautiful vistas of Pumori, Khumbuste, and Nuptse will be visible to us. We’ll spend the night back in Gorak Shep after that.

While it’s best to visit Kala Patthar at sunset, when the sun is setting and the snow-capped mountains are at their most stunning, those who choose to visit Kala Patthar that day should let their guide know and they will make the required preparations.

Gorakshep to Kalapathar 5545m/18188ft. to Pheriche 4210m/13812ft.

Even in the dark and with temperatures between -10 and -14 degrees Celsius, we prepare to leave early in the morning. There can be cold winds as well. Leading peaks like Lingtren, Khumbutse, and Changtse are visible to the east as we start our hike, and Mt. Everest gradually comes into sight as we go on. We are rewarded with an amazing close-up 360-degree vista of Mount Everest as we arrive at Kala Patthar. Before spending the night in Pheriche, we snap photos and savor the scenery.

We start the journey early, thus breakfast is served early for those who intend to visit Everest Base Camp. We will return to Gorak Shep for lunch with both groups because this hike takes longer than the Kala Patthar hike, and then we will descend to Pheriche for the night.

We follow the river through dense pine forests, crossing the Dudh Koshi River on a bridge decorated with prayer flags. We might come across colorful pheasants and mountain goats in this woodland. The path brings us to Sansa, where the Ama Dablam, Thamserku, and Nuptse mountains are visible in all directions. In addition, we travel a meandering trail through the jungle until we reach Namche Bazaar, our overnight destination.

Namche to Lukla 2800m/9184ft.

Because of the trail’s steep descent and the uneven surface, which can be taxing on our weary legs, we must exercise caution. Before the trail gets more level and walkable, we cross suspension bridges across the swiftly flowing Dudh Koshi and its tributaries. After arriving in Lukla, we may unwind and consider the events of the last few weeks. We stay in Lukla for the night.

Fly back to Kathmandu

Following our alpine hiking excursion, we will fly from Lukla to Kathmandu early in the morning. We can choose to relax or spend time shopping for souvenirs once we get to Kathmandu. Our guides can help us tour more of Kathmandu if that is what we would like to do. There will be a farewell supper later in the evening to commemorate our journey’s happy conclusion.
