Trip Overview

Island Peak Climbing

For experienced and novice mountaineers alike, the most popular and frequently undertaken peak climbing path is reaching the summit of the island (6,189 meters). It passes through the Khumbu region along the well-trod Everest Base Camp trekking path, which welcomes hundreds of adventure-seeking climbing parties every year. Sagarmatha National Park is where you can find it. Named “Island” by Eric Shipton of the British Mount Everest Expedition in 1953, it was renamed “Imja Tsen” in 1983. For those who are new to climbing, Island Peak is a great summit because it is not technically challenging and requires no advanced climbing skills. The major top of the island was reached in 1956, although the southwest peak was first reached in 1953. From the peak, breathtaking views can be seen of Lhotse, Nuptse, Lhotse Shar, Lhose middle, Makalu, Amadablam in the south, and Baruntse in the east.

Beyond the thrill of a thrilling flight to Lukla, a trek to Everest Base Camp (EBC), and a visit to Kalapathar, island peak climbing provides an exhilarating climbing experience that elevates your Himalayan adventure beyond mere hiking. Normally, one has to go from Kathmandu to Namche Bazaar, the entryway to Mount Everest and a modern Khumbu hamlet; additionally, one has to travel to Tengboche, Dingboche, Lobuche, Dzongla, a small village sandwiched between Gorko and Chhukung, and Chhukung village. The trip takes 19 days in total.

Spring and fall are the best times to hike and peak climb on the island because of their moderate temperatures. Winter and summer are not ideal climbing seasons because to the extreme cold and protracted monsoon rains that cause avalanches and landslides in dangerous locations, respectively.

With just moderate technical difficulties, island peak climbing is rated as a good natural destination (Alpine PD+). Permission is needed to access Everest National Park and climb Island Peak. Please come along with us for an incredible trek to the Khumbu region’s Island Peak. It is possible to modify the itinerary to fit your time, physical capabilities, and individual tastes. Kindly contact us at any time in case you require any travel-related information.

Highlights

Following an expedited air journey to Lukla, the Island Peak Climbing trekking route traverses multiple ethnic Sherpa communities, such as Phakding, Namche Bazaar, Tengboche, and more. Highlights are included at each checkpoint along the way. Namche Bazaar—well-known for its Sherpas and as the starting point for Mount Everest—will be on your schedule. It has also historically functioned as a hub for Himalayan and lowland commerce. Beautiful views of the mountains from this town include Thamserku, Ama Dablam, Lhoste, Kongdi RI, Kusum Kanguru, and Mount Everest.

The Everest View Hotel, located 3,962 meters above sea level, offers spectacular views of Mount Everest from the windows of each accommodation. We’ll hike to the hotel to see Mount Everest’s majesty and elegance. Hiking for three to four hours is a breathtaking natural experience.

We go through the valleys of the Dudh Koshi and Imja Rivers on our way to Tengboche, the spiritual center of Khumbu. Tengboche Monastery is the oldest Buddhist monastery in Khumbu. It provides amazing vistas of Ama Dablam and Everest. You are going to Kala Patthar, which is a perspective. It provides stunning, expansive views of Everest’s summits. We start the hike early in the morning to catch a glimpse of the glittering sunrise among the Himalayas.

A lifetime experience of summit climbing is the most significant aspect of this journey.

Kathmandu Valley Sightseeing Tour

The Valley of Kathmandu The early morning will see the start of the tour of the sights. This will be our first visit to the hallowed Pashupatinath temple. Devoted to Lord Shiva, Pashupatinath is one of the four most important sacred sites in Asia for his devotees. Since a Shiva lingam was discovered there at the start of the millennium, the location itself is thought to have existed. The Malla monarchs later renovated the structure, which was first built in the fifth century. For the Hindu population, this location—which is close to the banks of the Bagmati River—has enormous sacred significance. The Pashupatinath temple is built in the pagoda style of architecture and contains many smaller shrines outside the main temple. There are also a lot of Hindu cremations, which are sometimes visible.

The tour’s nest site is the revered Bouddhanath stupa. The Buddhist Boudha Stupa is one of the largest and most recognizable stupas in the world, dominating the skyline.Due to the enormous influx of Tibetan refugees, more than fifty Gompas (Tibetan monasteries) have been constructed in the Bouddhanath area. The Stupa is situated next to the ancient trade route that connects Tibet with the town of Sankhu, which is situated in the northeastern portion of the Kathmandu Valley. Tibetan tradesmen have been coming here for prayers and respite for many years. There are also a lot of Hindus who have cremations, which are sometimes visible.

Tour headquarters are located near the revered Bouddhanath stupa. The Buddhist Boudha Stupa is a prominent structure that stands out among the world’s largest and most recognizable stupas. In the vicinity of Bouddhanath, the large-scale migration of Tibetan refugees has led to the construction of over fifty Gompas, or Tibetan monasteries. Sankhu is a hamlet in the northeastern part of the Kathmandu Valley, and the Stupa is situated along the traditional trade route that extends from Tibet into this region. Tibet traders have been coming here for prayers and rest for many years.According to reports, the stupa contains the remains of Kassapa Buddha.

The next stop on the agenda is Kathmandu’s Durbar Square. The square is known as Hanuman Dhoka Durbar Square because of the statue of Hanuman, the monkey devotee of Lord Ram, that is located next to the royal palace entrance. The Durbar at Durbar Square served as the royal residence of Nepal until the 19th century and was the site of important occasions such as the coronation of the nation’s monarchs. The palace, which is decorated with finely carved wooden windows and panels, is home to the King Tribhuwan Memorial Museum and the Mahendra Museum. The plaza’s temples and palaces have regularly undergone restorations following weather-related damage or neglect. There are now less than ten quadrangles in the square. On April 25, 2015, an earthquake with an estimated magnitude of 7.9 occurred in the region, severely injuring the Square and demolishing numerous structures. The earliest temples in the square were built by King Mahendra Malla (1560–1574). These are the temples of Taleju, Kotilingeswara Mahadev, Mahendreswara, and Jaggannath. The Square saw an increase in the number of temples and monuments built in its honor as many rulers came to power over time. It is one of the most stunning examples of Newa architecture and Nepalese art.

The journey will conclude at the Swayambhunath Stupa, an old holy building located at the top of a hill in the Kathmandu Valley, west of Kathmandu city. Swayambhunath is perhaps the most renowned of all the Buddhist pilgrimage sites, especially among Tibetans and followers of Tibetan Buddhism. We stumbled up the last few steps, gasping and sweating, and I almost fell over the biggest vajra (thunderbolt scepter) I had ever seen. Past this Vajra was the stupa’s vast, round, white dome, which like a full, solid skirt. Two enormous Buddha eyes were poised atop the dome, looking intelligently down on the peaceful valley that was just beginning to come alive. The complex consists of a stupa and other shrines and temples, some of which are from the Licchavi era.

Namche Bazar and Everest View Hotel

We have designated today as our acclimatization day. In certain situations, this can prevent you from feeling dizzy by assisting your body in acclimating to the higher altitude and warding off any altitude sickness that may arise over the next few days. We unwind and have a great day of sightseeing in Namche Bazaar as a result. Namche Bazaar is the hub of trade in Khumbu. In addition to the Everest peak, Namche provides amazing views of many other neighboring Himalayan peaks, including the Thamserku, Kongdi RI, and Ama Dablam. The Everest Photo Gallery and the Sherpa Culture Museum are located here. Moreover, you can hike up to Syangboche airport, which is the airport located above the settlement. Namche to Dole (4200m/13776ft) Duration: 5 hrs

The route is easy up to Kyangjuma, but it starts with a strenuous climb through rhododendron forests, which give place to fragrant juniper and large coniferous forests as we climb higher. This excursion is especially beautiful in the spring, when the rhododendrons flower. Along the trails are countless Kharkas, summer settlements used by Sherpas to transport yak herds to graze in these alpine meadows. Before reaching Dole, which has a few hotels, the route passes by the settlements of Gyele (3960m) and Tongba (3950m). We take a room at one. The views of Khumbila and Tawache (6542m) are amazing all day long!

A Sherpa woman was connected to a Yeti who had murdered three yaks in 1974. So far, this episode has garnered the greatest attention from the media.

The walk today is quite strenuous. Because the strong wind blows at noon and after, we set out before daybreak to reach the pass by 9 or 10. A tough climb begins for us. Snow combined with altitude could be a concern. Crossing the pass when it’s snow-covered frequently results in horrible difficulties. Today is one of the most anticipated days of the trip. From Lobuche, you will go to Gorekshep, the last settlement before the base camp on Mount Everest. In the end, you will hike along the Khumbu glacier moraine from Gorekshep to the base camp. The height and number of ups and downs in this stretch can be taxing, but even with the little elevation gain, the route is still worthwhile. From the base camp, one can see the Khumbu Ice Fall and the glacier. This is where the Everest journey begins. You will return to Gorekshep after a short stay in Everest’s base camp.

Dingboche to Island Peak Base Camp (5240m/17187ft) Duration: 6 hours

From Dingboche, we make a leisurely start by following the Imja Valley, and then we descend the moraines that lead from Lhotse (8501 meters) to the sand flats of Pareshaya Gyab. We will reach Island Peak’s base camp in the middle of the day. Our chef is a professional who cooks meals for us during our one or two days at the tent camp. It feels like we are sitting atop a large mountain enjoying a picnic.

After lunch, our guides provide instruction on peak climbing. Climbing skills are imparted, including the use of ascender and descender rope systems and climbing gear such ice axes, crampons, boots, and harness. Having previous Island Peak Climbing training experience boosts your confidence when climbing, albeit it’s not necessary. All of these trainings put you in a better position to reach the summit and enjoy yourself.

Island Peak Base Camp to summit Peak (6189m/20300ft) and back to Chhukung 10 – 11 hours

Today is the day to climb Island Peak, which is 6,189 meters high. Our walk usually begins at one in the morning. The climb begins with a simple rock gully, but there are a few short steep rock parts to ascend before you reach the right side of the valley. Subsequently, the path proceeds along a ridgeline, reaching a thrilling and perilous crossing onto the top glacier’s muzzle. We have to walk across several cracks in the ice. The guides will install any ropes needed to cross the crevasses. We climb steeply through the snow to the top ridge. We feel as though we have moved to a new location. After stopping for pictures and admiring the view from the summit, we descend to Dingboche, where we spend the night.

Reserve day for contingency

We reserve this day as a backup in case of inclement weather, technical difficulties, or difficulties ascending the peak alone.

Should severe weather persist, we will need to reschedule our peak-summit activities. On occasion, a group member might not be well enough to finish the ascent or might have trouble acclimating; in that scenario, the day might also be used. If all goes according to plan, we can forego this extra day.
