Trip Overview
Explore Lhasa, the Tibetan capital, and its cultural treasures. Barkhor Square and the Dalai Lama’s palaces are visited on the Glimpse of Tibet Tour. Lhasa, a city with a rich cultural legacy, Lhasa is situated beneath the shadow of the Red Mountain. In the following years, it was the capital chosen by the Dalai Lama and the Tibetan Emperor Songsten Gampo.
A mysterious metropolis that sparked the curiosity of numerous western travelers, it was known to the globe as the forbidden city at the “Roof of the World.” The city of Lhasa still inspires tourists in the twenty-first century. Among them, we assume, you are the most likely one. Don’t hesitate to join this thrilling excursion and climb on board!
There are three methods to go to Lhasa: by air, by rail, or by car. To enter the city, you can take any kind of transportation. Once you reach Lhasa, your journey officially begins. You will go on a tour of discovery to the city’s historical attractions, which include three UNESCO World Heritage attractions, with our experienced local guide.
You will have the opportunity to tour the exquisite Potala Palace, the Dalai Lama’s winter palace. The skyline of Lhasa is dominated by this magnificent palace, constructed in the traditional manner. Buddhist relics, historic scroll paintings, mausoleums, and items belonging to the previous Dalai Lamas are all on display within the palace.
Stroll through the bustling Barkhor Square and enter the revered Jokhang Temple, one of Tibet’s most ancient and sacred Buddhist temples. Watch as the pilgrims in front of the temple bow down and pray.
The Dalai Lama’s summer retreat, Norbulingka, features lovely gardens and ponds. Families enjoying a day out can be seen there, as it is a favorite picnic location for the Tibetan community.
You can interact with the monks and observe their discussions at the Sera and Drepung monasteries. For Tibetan monks, these monasteries serve as crucial educational institutions. If allowed, you are welcome to see the spacious assembly halls where the lamas perform Buddhist rites and give prayers.
One of the three main monasteries of the Gelugpa Sect, Ganden Monastery, is visited as part of the five-day Glimpse of Tibet Tour. The distance between the monastery and the main city is around 1.5 hours by car.
Je Tsongkhapa, the founder of the Gelugpa Sect, constructed this monastery in the fifteenth century, perched atop Wangbur Mountain. His earthly remains are interred on the premises of the monastery. There are numerous chapels and meeting halls in the monastic region. Because of its isolation, Ganden Monastery does not receive many tourists. As a result, you can explore in peace and enjoy yourself.
While the Glimpse of Tibet Tour is available all year round, the winter months can have some really harsh weather. Wintertime brings snow and below-freezing temperatures. This excursion is best enjoyed in the spring, fall, and summer.
There is less oxygen in the air because Lhasa is 3,656 meters above sea level. It’s common to feel a little off when you first arrive. On the first day, we recommend that you rest and avoid doing much physical exertion. Make sure you stay hydrated by drinking lots of water during your visit. This will lessen the chance of altitude sickness.
To finish this tour, you must be in pretty good health and physical shape. There will be some stair climbing and easy walking on level terrain. Before making this travel reservation, please check with your doctor if you have a heart or respiratory condition.
This tour is ideal for a quick getaway with family and friends because of its brief five-day duration.
