Trip Overview

Family trek to Everest Base Camp

We may see breathtaking mountain views, get a peek of the famous mountain climbers’ daily lives, tour Sagarmatha National Park ( UNESCO World Heritage Site), and visit high-altitude Buddhist temples during the 16-day family trip to the Everest Base Camp. Tengboche is one of these monasteries that is very important to Buddhists spiritually. To ensure optimal acclimatization and a comfortable hiking experience, it is recommended to stay for one or two nights at Namche Bazaar. Families and inexperienced hikers in excellent health with average physical ability are the target audience for this excursion. We are well acclimatized to enjoy our journey to the Everest base camp because of the sufficient distance covered between daily itineraries, a constant elevation climb, and distinct rest days. Altitude sickness can be prevented by walking on high altitude paths at a steady pace and with appropriate acclimatization. The chance to set out on the same amazing adventure that Sir Edmund Hillary and Tenzing Norgay did in 1953 is another benefit of trekking to Everest Base Camp. We are able to travel to the world’s highest mountain’s base camp under the supervision of a Sherpa, and we can even ascend Kala Patthar to get amazing sweeping views of Everest and other Himalayan peaks. There is no greater sense of accomplishment or exhilaration than being up close and personal with this beautiful mountain’s majesty and grace.

Highlights of the Family trek to Everest Base Camp

  • Stroll to the base of Everest, the highest mountain in the world at 5364 meters.
  • Enjoy the expansive vistas of Kala Patthar that encompass Everest and the Himalayas.

As we continue on our trip, we will pass by the location of the 1953 Everest Expedition’s first successful camp and get a glimpse of Mt. Pumori. But as our trail dips and curves, Mt. Pumori will have to part ways with us. After fording a brook, we’ll climb to the small settlement of Duglha, where a vast banner of prayer flags is draped over the valley. Once in Duglha, we can walk for 45 minutes to an hour to the Memorial Shrine.

Gorakshep to Kalapatthar to Pheriche 5545m/18193ft.

We bundle up in the predawn darkness and bitter cold (-10 to -14 C) in preparation for an early morning departure. Besides, chilly breezes are usual. Looking east, Everest starts to reveal itself, with recognizable peaks like Changtse, Khumbutse, and Lingtren standing out. Still, we are not rewarded with 360-degree close-up views of Mount Everest until we reach Kala Patthar. We snap photos, savor the magnificent alpine landscape, and then head back to Lobuche for a restful evening. At Lobuche, spend the night.

Since the journey to Everest Base Camp is lengthier than the hike to Kala Patthar, visitors to Everest Base Camp today will begin their visit with an early breakfast. Following their return to Gorak Shep, the two groups will have lunch together before making their way to Pheriche for a comfortable evening.

Namche Bazaar to Lukla 2800m/9184ft.

Walking downward to begin our adventure, we cross multiple bridges over the swiftly flowing Dudh Koshi River and its tributaries. The land gradually evens out and returns to its natural state. We love strolling through pine and rhododendron forests and over wide plains, often with distant views of snow-capped peaks. The prayer stones and flags that are a part of the Sherpa culture are signs of their great belief in Buddhism, which we observe as we pass through their communities. When we finally arrive in Lukla, we use the time to relax and think back on the amazing adventures we’ve had over the last two weeks. We’ve completed our arduous journey via the high passes and mountains.
