Trip Overview

Everest Base Camp Luxury Lodge Trek

The Everest Base Camp Luxury Trek is an amazing journey that offers a singular chance to discover the Himalayas and immerse oneself in Sherpa culture. This trek gives an opportunity for acclimatization and a cultural trek into the Khumbu Valley, following in the footsteps of Tenzing Norgay and Sir Edmund Hillary’s historic 1953 expedition. The trip also includes accommodations at the best luxury lodges in the area and breathtaking views of the Himalayan range, which is home to four of the highest peaks in the world.

A world heritage site recognized for its rich Himalayan flora and fauna, Sagarmatha National Park offers visitors more activities than just trekking, such as learning about the way of life of the Sherpas. The journey begins with a visit to Kathmandu’s cultural sites before taking off for Hillary Airport in Lukla via a mountain plane. After reaching Namche Bazaar, the Sherpa capital, via a strenuous climb, the trip continues to Kala Patthar, a well-known viewpoint with expansive views of the Himalayas. Flights back to Kathmandu conclude the adventure after arriving at Everest Base Camp.

Mission Nepal offers other treks in the Everest region, including the Everest Base Camp Short Trek (14 days).

Acclimatization at Dingboche

A popular stop for hikers and mountaineers traveling to Imja Tse, Ama Dablam, or Mount Everest is Dingboche. The community is beautifully landscaped, with several fields surrounded by stone walls that protect potatoes, barley, and buckwheat from cold winds and grazing livestock. At Dingboche, we take a day’s break to adjust to the altitude. We go on a day climb to Nagarjun Hill during this break, which offers breathtaking views of Makalu, Lhotse, Chalotse, Tawache, Ama Dablam, and other nearby mountains.

Dingboche to Lobuche 4910m/16105ft.

In order to prevent altitude sickness, it’s crucial to go slowly and steadily up the steep and difficult ascent from Duglha to Chupki Lhara. Reminiscent of the dangers and sacrifices necessary to reach the top of the world’s tallest mountain, the tributes honoring Scott Fischer and Babu Chiri Sherpa are moving. Continuing along the Khumbu Glacier moraine, we’ll be given to some extremely spectacular views of the surrounding peaks, including Pumori, often referred to as “Everest’s daughter” because of its near proximity to the highest mountain in the world. After a long journey, we will reach Lobuche, a tiny community that is well-known as a base camp for climbers going to Everest and other surrounding mountains.

10

Lobuche to Gorakshep, visit Everest Base Camp 5364m/17594ft.

We’ll hike across the once-large Gorak Shep Lake to reach Everest Base Camp. We shall pass memorials for the mountaineers of the Indian army along the route. We must follow our lead Sherpa because the path can be difficult to navigate. The walk will be difficult because of the high altitude; before arriving at Everest Base Camp, we will cross streams, moraines, and rocky dunes. From there, the surrounding drab landscape will be contrasted with the vibrant tents of the mountaineers. Magnificent vistas of Nuptse, Khumbuste, and Pumori will be shown to us. After that, we’re spending the night back in Gorak Shep.

While it’s best to visit Kala Patthar at sunset, when the sun is setting and the snow-capped mountains are at their most stunning, those who choose to visit Kala Patthar that day should let their guide know and they will make the required preparations.

Gorakshep to Kalapathar 5545m/18188ft. to Pheriche 4210m/13812ft.

Even in the dark and with temperatures between -10 and -14 degrees Celsius, we prepare to leave early in the morning. There can be cold winds as well. Leading peaks like Lingtren, Khumbutse, and Changtse are visible to the east as we start our hike, and Mt. Everest gradually comes into sight as we go on. We are rewarded with an amazing close-up 360-degree vista of Mount Everest as we arrive at Kala Patthar. Before spending the night in Pheriche, we snap photos and savor the scenery.

We start the journey early, thus breakfast is served early for those who intend to visit Everest Base Camp. We will return to Gorak Shep for lunch with both groups because this hike takes longer than the Kala Patthar hike, and then we will descend to Pheriche for the night.

12

Pheriche to Namche 3440m/11283ft.

After leaving Pheriche, we make our way across hills dotted with juniper and rhododendron plants. We follow the river through dense pine forests, crossing the Dudh Koshi River on a bridge decorated with prayer flags. We might come across colorful pheasants and mountain goats in this woodland. The path brings us to Sansa, where the Ama Dablam, Thamserku, and Nuptse mountains are visible in all directions. In addition, we travel a meandering trail through the jungle until we reach Namche Bazaar, our overnight destination.

13

Namche to Lukla 2800m/9184ft.

The trail drops off sharply, and the rocky ground can be difficult on our weary legs, so we must exercise caution. A more flat and walkable section of the path follows after we pass suspension bridges across the swiftly flowing Dudh Koshi and its tributaries. Arriving at Lukla allows us to unwind and consider the events of the previous few weeks. Here in Lukla, we stay overnight.

Fly back to Kathmandu

We will fly from Lukla to Kathmandu early in the morning following our mountain hiking excursion. We can choose to relax or go souvenir shopping when we get to Kathmandu.
