Trip Overview

Annapurna Sanctuary Trek

The amazing 14-day Annapurna Sanctuary Trek takes hikers through a variety of Nepalese landscapes and immerses them in the local way of life as they ascend to the South Face of Annapurna I. You will be able to explore UNESCO World Heritage Sites in Kathmandu, take in breath-taking views of the Himalayas, and watch the dawn over the Annapurna and Dhaulagiri ranges from Poon Hill throughout your journey. Trekkers who wish to explore Poon Hill and World Heritage Sites while traveling at a leisurely pace to the Annapurna base camp are the target audience for this route. On the other hand, the 11-day Annapurna Base Camp Trek would be a better choice for people who are pressed for time.

Itinerary

01

Arrival in Kathmandu1400m/4594ft.

At Kathmandu’s Tribhuwan International Airport (TIA), we will be greeted by a Kantipur Holidays representative who will then take us to the hotel of our choosing by car. Kathmandu Sightseeing

After breakfast today, we begin a guided tour of some of Kathmandu’s most significant historical and spiritual landmarks, many of which are also UNESCO World Heritage sites. The renowned “Monkey Temple” of Swayambhunath, the revered Hindu temple of Pashupatinath, the ancient Durbar Square in Kathmandu, and the Buddhist shrine of Bouddhanath—which is also the location of one of the biggest stupas in the world—are all visited. We meet up with the other participants for lunch at the Kantipur Holidays office, where we talk about our itinerary and have our hiking guide inspect our equipment.

Fly to Pokhara; drive to Hile and trek to Ulleri 2050m/6726ft.

Our early flight will take us to Pokhara, where we may enjoy the breathtaking views of the Himalayas. For the best views, we should choose a seat on the right side of the airplane. When we get to Pokhara, we’ll be treated to breathtaking views of the Himalayan Mountain range, which includes Dhaulagiri, Manaslu, Machhapuchhre, and the five peaks of Annapurna. After a quick break, we will travel to Hile, where our trek begins. During the journey, we will pass through trees found in subtropical valleys, and we may have to walk on paths that have been carved out of the side of cliffs. After lunch, we’ll cross the Bhurungdi Khola on a bridge and head to the town of Tikhedhunga. The Ulleri Hill, with its hundreds of steps and ever-increasing pebbles, will test our endurance. By the time we arrive at Ulleri, it should be afternoon.

Ulleri To Ghorepani 2850m/9348ft.

We start our journey towards Ghorepani after breakfast by climbing higher. Once upon a time, Ghorepani—meaning “horse-water” in Nepali—was an important stopping place for traders and their horses. It’s a popular trekking destination these days, with little shops and stalls selling locally made handicrafts. Divided into two parts, the settlement’s top area provides breath-taking, expansive views of the surrounding mountains, which include the Annapurna South and Nilgiri ranges. The colder weather, particularly in the evenings, becomes more apparent as we rise in elevation.

Hike up To Poon Hill and to Tadapani 2610m/8560ft.

We have a long day ahead of us because we are going early in the morning up the rough trail to Poon Hill viewpoint, which is 3,210 meters/10,529 ft. From here, we have breathtaking morning views of the Himalayas. With spectacular views of Pokhara, Mustang, and over 20 of the world’s highest mountains, including the Dhaulagiri and Annapurna ranges, Poon Hill is a popular trekking destination in the Annapurna region. After a little while spent snapping photos, we pause for coffee, tea, or hot chocolate and head back to Ghorepani for breakfast. Then, we cross a nearby hill to the east and make our way to Tadapani, our overnight stop, via gorgeous rhododendron forests and breathtaking waterfalls.

Tadapani to Chhomrong 2170m/7120ft.

The hike starts out with a descent through a sizable grove of rhododendron. We pass gorgeous terraced farms after leaving the wooded track. After almost five kilometers of climbing over waterfalls, we finally reach a suspension bridge. In Nepal’s steep and mountainous regions, suspension bridges are common. We climb up and down for a few more km till we arrive in Chhomrong, a charming town that is situated directly beneath the gigantic Annapurna.

Chhomrong to Bamboo 2310m/7579ft.

To cross the Chhomrong Khola River, the trail from Chhomrong to Bamboo begins with a precipitous drop down a set of stone stairs. The trail climbs sharply once again after crossing the river to arrive at Sinuwa, a tiny village with a few lodges and tea houses.

The trail continues past Sinuwa through a bamboo and rhododendron forest, with sporadic openings offering views of the neighboring mountains. You will arrive to the village of Bamboo, which is located on the banks of the Modi Khola River, after around two hours of hiking.

There are a few tea houses and guesthouses in the little village of Bamboo. Trekkers who are en route to Annapurna Base Camp frequently spend the night there, while those who are coming down from higher elevations use it as a place to relax. There is a lot of bamboo along the route, and the village gets its name from the surrounding bamboo forest. Trekkers can enjoy breathtaking views of Machhapuchhre (Fishtail) and Annapurna South, two of the nearby ranges.

Bamboo to Deurali 3230m/10598ft.

The hike from Bamboo to Deurali begins with a strenuous climb through a rhododendron and bamboo forest. You will arrive at the tiny village of Dovan, which is perched on the banks of the Modi Khola River, after roughly an hour of hiking. After climbing through the jungle for around an hour from Himalaya, you’ll arrive in Deurali. Situated at an elevation of 3,230 meters, Deurali is the final village that trekkers visit before arriving at Machhapuchhre Base Camp.

Trekkers often take a break at Machhapuchhre Base Camp en route to Annapurna Base Camp. It takes its name from the holy peak Machhapuchhre, also known as Fishtail, which is visible from the base camp. Beautiful views of Hiunchuli and Annapurna South, as well as the surrounding mountains, are available.

The trail climbs sharply from MBC via a rocky, desolate area. You will arrive at Annapurna Base Camp (ABC), which is located at an elevation of 4,130 meters, after around two hours of hiking.
