Detailed 12-Day Kailash Mansarovar Yatra Itinerary via Kerung Route

Day 1: Arrival in Kathmandu (1,400m)

Upon landing in Kathmandu, our team will warmly welcome you at the airport and transfer you to a comfortable 3-star hotel. After check-in, you’ll attend a briefing session about the pilgrimage, where our experts will explain the itinerary, permit process, and safety guidelines. Spend the evening at leisure, exploring the vibrant streets of Thamel or resting for the adventure ahead.

Day 2: Kathmandu Sightseeing & Permit Processing

Start your day with a spiritual prelude by visiting Pashupatinath Temple, one of Hinduism’s most sacred sites, and Boudhanath Stupa, a UNESCO-listed Buddhist monument. Meanwhile, our team will finalize your Tibet Travel Permit and Chinese Group Visa. Use the afternoon to pack essentials (we’ll provide a checklist) or shop for last-minute gear.

Day 3: Drive Kathmandu → Syabrubesi (1,550m | 7–8 hrs)

After an early breakfast, embark on a scenic drive through Nepal’s lush hills and terraced farmlands. The route follows the Trishuli River, offering glimpses of rural life and distant Himalayan peaks. Overnight in Syabrubesi, a quaint village at the gateway to Langtang National Park.

Day 4: Syabrubesi → Kerung Border → Tibet (2,800m | 2 hrs)

A short drive takes you to the China-Nepal Friendship Bridge at Rasuwagadhi. Complete immigration formalities and cross into Tibet via Kerung (Gyirong Port). Meet your Tibetan guide and driver, then settle into a guesthouse. Spend the afternoon acclimatizing and soaking in your first views of Tibet’s dramatic landscapes.

Day 5: Kerung → Saga (4,600m | 5–6 hrs)

Traverse high-altitude plateaus and winding mountain roads, stopping to admire Pekhu Tso Lake’s turquoise waters. Saga, a bustling Tibetan town, serves as your acclimatization hub. Hydrate well and rest to prepare for higher elevations.

Day 6: Saga → Lake Mansarovar (4,590m | 7–8 hrs)

Today’s journey is a highlight: your first sighting of sacred Mansarovar Lake, shimmering against the backdrop of Mount Kailash. Pilgrims perform a holy dip (believed to cleanse sins) and meditate by the shores. Overnight in a lakeside guesthouse, absorbing the spiritual energy.

Day 7: Mansarovar → Darchen (4,575m | 1 hr)

After morning rituals at Mansarovar, drive to Darchen, the base camp for the Kailash Kora. Attend a briefing about the trek, rent gear (if needed), and pack light for the parikrama. Rest early to conserve energy.

Days 8–10: The Sacred Kailash Parikrama (Kora Trek)

Day 8: Darchen → Dirapuk (4,900m | 6–7 hrs trek)

Begin the 52km circumambulation with a gentle ascent through valleys dotted with prayer flags. Stop at Yam Dwar, the symbolic gateway to Kailash. Reach Dirapuk Monastery by afternoon, where the north face of Kailash looms majestically. Overnight in a basic guesthouse.

Day 9: Dirapuk → Zuthulpuk (4,820m | 8–9 hrs via Dolma La Pass)

The toughest yet most rewarding day! Trek steeply to Dolma La Pass (5,636m), the kora’s highest point, adorned with prayer flags. Descend to Gauri Kund (a sacred lake) before reaching Zuthulpuk Monastery. Celebrate overcoming the challenge with fellow pilgrims.

Day 10: Zuthulpuk → Darchen (4–5 hrs trek)

A gentle walk concludes the kora. Return to Darchen for hot showers and celebratory meals. Reflect on your spiritual achievement.

Days 11–12: Return Journey to Kathmandu

Day 11: Darchen → Kerung (10–12 hrs drive)

Retrace the route via Saga, stopping for photos of the Himalayas. Overnight in Kerung.

Day 12: Kerung → Kathmandu

Cross back into Nepal and drive to Kathmandu. Receive a certificate of completion at a farewell dinner. Depart with lifelong memories!
