Damodar Dhakal’s entry into mountain tourism was a natural extension of his deep-seated passion for nature and the mountains. Growing up in Sindhupalchok, a picturesque town on the outskirts of Kathmandu Valley, Dhakal developed a profound connection to the natural world. when he moved to Kathmandu for further education and to start his career.
His first significant challenge came with the Annapurna Base Camp Trek, which was both physically demanding and a formative learning experience. This trek provided him with valuable insights into what exceptional service in the mountains truly entails. Dhakal’s quick learning and positive demeanor earned him a reputation among clients, leading to his certification as a full-fledged trekking guide. He went on to lead numerous groups along iconic trails such as Everest, Annapurna, Langtang, and Kanchenjunga.
After 9 years of gaining experience with other travel companies, Dhakal decided to venture out on his own. In 2013, he co-founded Mission Nepal Holidays. The initial years were tough, marked by financial struggles and the challenges of building a new business from scratch. Despite these obstacles, their determination and perseverance led to success. Today, Mission Nepal Holidays is a leading adventure travel company, renowned for its expert mountain guides and well-organized trekking experiences.
Dhakal credits his success to the unwavering support of his team, clients, and well-wishers who stood by him during the company’s early struggles. He is particularly grateful to those clients who believed in him and helped spread the word about his company, which played a crucial role in its growth. Dhakal also values the contributions of mountain communities to his success and is committed to giving back. He regularly donates a portion of the company’s profits to charitable organizations, educational institutions in need, and rural health posts. Additionally, he shares his knowledge and experience with aspiring guides and students, helping to nurture the next generation of tourism professionals.
