Trip Overview

Makalu Base Camp Trek

Savor the beauty of the world’s fifth-highest peak as you explore the valleys in Nepal’s eastern region. The stunning Makalu Base Camp Trek offers you a taste of the true thrill of hiking to the base camp inside the Makalu Barun National Park. Magnificent vistas of summits like Everest, Lhotse, and Baruntse, as well as mountains like Makalu, may be seen in the area. The thing that will most likely inspire you to continue on your adventure is the gorgeous scenery of Arun Valley. Despite the fact that many people continue to be interested in this walk, the Makalu region only draws a small number of visitors annually since it is inaccessible and off the usual trekking route.

The Makalu Base Camp Trek begins with a flight from Tumlingtar to Kathmandu. We take a car from Tumlingtar to Num, where our actual trekking adventure begins. On the way to Makalu Base Camp, you pass over numerous high passes, including Shipton La and Keke La, and follow the Barun River Valley in Makalu Barun National Park. Regarding the trail’s difficulties, it is never level, leading to Makalu Base Camp. The walk is challenging and exhausting since you will either be climbing upward or going below. However, the beauty of nature you will experience much outweighs the challenges you encountered on your journey. Rhododendron trees, breathtaking waterfalls, cliffs, and glaciers along the route will add wonders and excitement to your walk. All you can do while standing proudly at the Makalu Base Camp is allow your gaze to stray from top to peak as the magnificent Mt. Makalu rises majestically before you.

If you are interested in learning about the variation in altitude that occurs during your trip, it begins in Tumlingtar at an elevation of 400 meters and ascends to 5500 meters along the southeast ridge of Mount Makalu. The breathtaking views of the mountains that we were rewarded with from the base camp during our journey were well worth it. The abundant biodiversity of Makalu Base Camp extends over Makalu Barun National Park. If you’re lucky, your travels may bring you close to some uncommon birds and animals. Similar to this, we will learn about local customs, culture, and way of life through our interactions with locals along the route. Here, agriculture is the main source of income for the locals. As you travel through communities, you can view picturesque fields. Because of how kind everyone is, your trip feels more dynamic and comfortable.

We have created an incredibly thrilling and daring itinerary for individuals with three weeks or more to spare, who would not want to miss the Makalu Base Camp Trek, which brings us closer to Makalu, the fifth-highest mountain in the world. It’s among the most well-known and cherished hikes in the entire globe. It happens in the Makalu region of Nepal, which is home to the Himalayas. This trip offers a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to see the Makalu massifs and an incredible scenery, as well as the genuine natural and cultural beauty of Makalu. The trip is breathtaking and motivating from start to finish. It’s unforgettable to experience both the natural beauty and the cultural core. Seeing the world’s fifth-highest peak directly before us is a feat in and of itself.

We take you on a quick, exciting flight to Tumlingtar to start your MBC journey. The chilly breeze of the Himalayas greets you. Away from modernity, you can live like a local in a rural highland area.

Your eyes are kept wide open by the breathtaking Himalayas throughout the entire ride. The breathtaking mountains add an air of otherworldly grandeur to the area. It is breath-taking to stroll through rhododendron forests, crossing suspension bridges and steep ridge lines. You’ll go to well-liked rest areas. At this point, the route merges with the ridge dividing the Kasuwa and Iswa drainages. The slope steepens and becomes a set of stone steps covered in moss that lead to Dhara Kharka, the meadow at the top of the ridge. After that, we cross a ridge and make a small descent to get to Kauma.
