Lower Dolpo Trek
- Trip Overview
- Fixed Departure
Lower Dolpo Trek is one of the most exciting and challenging trek in the remote western region of Nepal which offers outstanding trekking experience. This trek was opened for foreigners in 1982. The main attractions of this trek are the ancient Buddhist monasteries, the Tibetan plateau, the gripping lifestyles of the local flocks and their culture. It requires special trekking permits from the migration office because of its remote sensitivity geography. This trek is full of amazing gifts of nature that includes surrounding landscapes, valleys, mountain range, Shey Phoksundo Lake and Pre-Buddhism Bonpo Culture. This trek passes through protected areas and leads us to wonderful ‘Phoksundo Lake’ surrounded by flora and fauna (Blue Sheep, Himalayan Black Bear, Leopard, Wolves and the exclusive Snow Leopard, Mountain Goat and Jackal). People of Dolpo follow ancient Tibetan Buddhism recognized as the ‘Bonpo’. They earn their income by trading items of salt, cotton, barley and rice in Tibet. The trek cross two high passes Numa La Pass and Baga La Pass which offer breathtaking view of Mt. Dhaulagiri and the Tibetan Ranges (Kugung La and Khyung La).
The 18 day trek starts by exploring the UNESCO World Heritage Sites (Bouddhanath, Pasupathinath, Swayambhunath and Kathmandu Duarber Square in Kathmandu. The trek begins with flight from Kathmandu – Nepalgunj – Juphal. It is our starting point of trek. We pass through several villages and pass Dunai, Tarakot, Laini, Nawarpani, Do Tarap, Numa La Pass, Bega La Pass, Dajok Tang, Ringmo, Phoksundo Lake and Chhekpa. The trail passes through beautiful villages, deep gorges, ancient monasteries, Phoksundo Lake, glacier of Kanjiroba and remote zones. This trek is ideal for those trekkers who love wild adventures.
